Rank Tracker – An Effective SEO Tool for Keyword Research

SEO PowerSuite created Rank Tracker in 2004, at a time when ranking monitoring was just popularized before it really caught on. It hit the market as one of the first tools to handle rank tracking and promote naming for similar products. Despite of its imposing looks with numerous settings, modules, and metrics, even a beginner finds it quite easy to follow the tool’s logic.

To begin work, you need to enter your website URL in the field of your new project.  The tool will gather all the keywords the website ranks for. The Rank Tracking module will display these keywords offering numerous metrics they can be tracked by. To get more keywords, you need to go to the Keyword Research tab featuring multiple keyword research modules. You’ll be able to track keywords found here as they will automatically appear in Keyword Sandbox where you can filter your results.

Research methods

There are different types of keyword research. Besides integrating your Google accounts and receiving the results from them, you can use the methods offered by Rank Tracker:

  • Related Searches
  • Related Questions
  • Keyword Combinations
  • Autocomplete Tools
  • TF-IDF Explorer
  • Keyword Gap

Whereas most of the methods let you find keyword by entering your topic in the search field, Keyword Gap allows you to find keywords your competitors use, and you don’t. As Keyword Gap is a go-to module when you need to check for new keyword options that can help you compete with your peer brands’ ratings, there is a dedicated Competitor Research tab as well. Here you can find your Domain Competitors that rank for the same keywords as your domain does.

Also, you can look for your Topic Competitors based on your topic keywords. Plus, here you’ll find the Top Pages module that will help you to discover the top-ranking pages of a website.

SERP analysis

Thanks to a built-in SERP Analysis module you can assess any keyword value. By entering a keyword you’re interested in, you get to learn its difficulty, competition, possible PPC, the number of searches, how many visits it can bring. Moreover, the module provides you with the number of ranking factors that impact the distribution of positions on SERP. It shows you how important Page Strength, Domain Traffic, Page InLink Rank, and other factors are regarding a position of a page that ranks for the analyzed keyword.

Studying these factors, you can make some conclusions of how tough it will be to compete for this keyword on SERP, and which ranking factor you may try to boost to have more chances of appearing high among search results.

If you go to Rank Tracking > Ranking Details, you will also see in which Google SERP features you appear thanks to a particular keyword, and in which features your competitors are shown.

In the Rank Tracking module, you can explore the metrics of your tracked keywords. In Keywords and rankings you can observe which page ranks for a certain keyword and how successfully. You can see the dynamics of your ranking in Ranking progress.

By syncing the tool with Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts you can get you traffic details in the Organic traffic tab.
