The Benefits of Switching to Reusable Water Bottles

reusable plastic water bottlesHow would you like an extra $1,800 a year? That’s how much you could save by using a reusable water bottle instead of buying disposable ones for the recommended amount of eight glasses of water a day. Though that is a great benefit, the advantages to the environment and your health are even better.

For example, 90% of bottled water’s cost comes from making the bottle. In fact, bottling water releases 2.5 million tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year. While recycling seems like the best way to combat this issue, that’s not what’s happening; 38 billion plastic water bottles end up in U.S. landfills each year, and 1.1 million marine creatures are killed annually by plastic waste that washes into the ocean.

Using disposable water bottles is also putting your health at risk; chemicals used to make the bottles have been linked to reproductive issues, adult asthma and dizziness. Some studies even show an increased risk of breast cancer.

Though recycling is helpful, the best way to fight these issues is to switch to reusable water bottles (such as those available online) because they lower the amount of waste going into landfills, reduce or eliminate harmful chemicals and protect animals and the environment. Plus, they can be recycled. These facts (and others regarding the dangers of disposable water bottles and the advantages to switching to reusable ones) are detailed in the infographic below.
