Cloud computing is the delivery of computing services such as servers, storage, databases, networking, software, analytics, and intelligence. The four significant types of cloud computing are Private clouds, Public clouds, Hybrid clouds, and Multi-clouds. There are three types of cloud computing programs: infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS), and software-as-a-service (SaaS).
Choosing a cloud type or service is a one-of-a-kind decision. No two clouds (even if they are the same type) are the same, and no two cloud services are used to solve the problems.
Public clouds are cloud environments typically built using IT infrastructure that is not owned by the end-user. Among the largest public cloud providers include; Alibaba Cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and IBM Cloud.
Traditional public clouds were always off-premises, but today’s public cloud providers are beginning to offer cloud services on clients’ on-premise data centers. Private clouds are cloud environments that are solely devoted to a single end-user or group, with the environment typically running behind that user or group’s firewall. When the underlying IT space is concerned with a single consumer with completely isolated access, all clouds become private clouds.
Managed Private Cloud
Customers create and use a private cloud that a third-party vendor deploys, configures, and manages. Operated private clouds are a cloud delivery option that assists businesses with understaffed or underskilled IT teams in providing better private cloud services and infrastructure.
Dedicated Private Cloud
Another cloud within a cloud. A dedicated cloud can be on a public cloud (for example, Red Hat OpenShift® Dedicated) or on a private cloud. An accounting department, for example, could have its own dedicated cloud within the organization’s private cloud.
A hybrid cloud is an ostensibly single IT environment that consists of multiple environments linked together by LANs, WANs, and VPNs.
The requirements of hybrid clouds are complex, and the requirements vary according to who you ask.
- At least a single private cloud and one public cloud.
- at least two private clouds
- at least two public clouds
- A bare-metal or virtual environment that is connected to at least one public or private cloud
- However, when apps can move in and out of multiple separate—yet connected—environments, any IT system becomes a hybrid cloud.
Multi-cloud is a cloud strategy that consists of more than one cloud service from more than one cloud vendor—public or private. Every hybrid cloud is multicolored, but not every multi-cloud is a hybrid cloud. When multiple clouds are linked together through integration or orchestration, they become hybrid clouds.
A multi-cloud environment may exist on purpose (to better control sensitive data or provide redundant storage space for improved calamity recovery or by chance (usually the result of shadow IT).
