An Ultimate Guide to Gaiam Yoga Mat

Yoga is possible without a yoga mat, but it is rather uncomfortable. A good yoga mat prevents yogis from sliding around when they move from the “looking down dog” to the “inclined plane”. In addition, the hard floor becomes considerably more comfortable, knees, as well as wrists and ankles, are at least felt to be relieved by the padding. The skin on hands and feet come into direct contact with the mats. In this respect, it is also important that the mats do not contain any dangerous pollutants.

Surprise yourself with Gaiam mats because in addition to having original designs, being BPA free, and being at a super price they are perfect to prevent joint injuries due to their excellent adherence to the ground and stability.

What is a yoga mat and how does it work?

A yoga mat is a mat that can be rolled up or folded down and thus offers a non-slip, soft underlay during yoga practice. Because of this, it resembles a simple sleeping pad. Yoga mats can consist of plastics, such as TPE, or of natural materials, such as cork or new wool.

Things to consider before buying a yoga mat

If you want to buy a new yoga mat, you should be aware of the following:

Size

Depending on how big you are, you may need a larger or smaller yoga mat. As a rule of thumb, a common yoga mat with the dimensions of 180 cm x 60 cm is sufficient for a body height of 1.80 m. If you are taller, you should look for an XL yoga mat. These measure up to 200 cm in length and 100 cm in width.

Non-slip

A safe stand is essential for yoga. When you move through the asanas, you don’t want to slide around with your hands or feet. That is why you should refer to the “non-slip” declaration for the yoga mats. Certain materials are also easier to grip than others: plastics, natural rubber or a natural rubber-jute mixture are suitable here.

Material

Yoga can be a sweaty sport, especially if you move from the looking down dog over the high lungs to the various warriors and back again. With your mat, you have constant skin contact over your hands and feet, sometimes your legs and arms. On the one hand, the material should, therefore, be easy to clean, but on the other hand, it should not contain any dangerous ingredients. Therefore, avoid PVC mats.

Advantages of Gaiam Yoga Mats

With more than 25 years in the market, Gaiam promotes a healthy lifestyle and wellness accessible to anyone, which is why buying a mat of this brand gives you the following advantages:

• Stability and anti-slip in each type and position of yoga.
• You can use them for home or study.
• It is a healthy option for the environment because they are BPA free.
• They are light and durable so you can easily transport them from one place to another
• You can choose between different thicknesses according to your needs.

Note: The mat can become brittle if exposed to the sun for long periods of time, so it is recommended to keep the mat dry and clean in a yoga bag after the session.

Is Gaiam a good yoga mat?

Yes, Gaiam is a good yoga mat.

If you have been a yoga practitioner for a long time or already want to start with the best equipment, know that the best yoga mat is Yoga Gaiam.

One of the great qualities of this product is the fact that it is thick and also light. That’s because with a thickness of approximately 0.6 cm the best yoga mat cushions the possible impacts that the yoga routine can bring.

However, despite having this thickness, Gaiam also took care that this characteristic did not make the carpet heavy. That way if you want a quality product that can be taken elsewhere due to its lightness, Yoga Gaiam is a good option.

Another relevant aspect is the presence of a textured and ultra-flexible non-slip surface on the yoga mat. This gives the product good adhesion to the surface on which it will rest.

What are Gaiam yoga mats made of?

Gaiam standard yoga mats are made of PVC, otherwise known as vinyl. Newer, more Eco-friendly options include natural and recycled rubber, jute, and organic cotton or natural cotton (which means the fabric is not treated with synthetic finishes during manufacturing).

Is 6mm yoga mat good?

Of course, a 6mm yoga mat is very good.

Another important feature of yoga mats is their thickness. Today it is possible to find yoga mats with thicknesses ranging from 1 millimeter to 15 millimeters.

The main difference between them is that the thickest carpets, from 10 mm upwards, are the carpets intended for the practice of pilates. Now, between choosing a yoga mat of only 1 millimeter and the thickest of 10 millimeters, it is important to note the main differences between them.

In the thinnest, the standard thicknesses for yoga mats are 4mm and 6mm. More experienced practitioners usually opt for the 4 mm mat. This is because it is already thick enough to cushion possible shocks, protecting the practitioner from possible accidents.

If you attend classes, then it may be better to give preference to 4 mm rugs that are more versatile and effective to the same extent that the thicker ones are.
